Sorry if the site looks different lately.
I’ve decided to get my own domain and am having a bit of a revamp of the site in general.
Although, depending on how the stats go when it’s set up, that may change. I dunno, I’m an amateur with websites and such, so bear with me. I’ll still post reviews, etc, but the layout/background, etc, may change.

Blood Skies, Book 2
Something ancient has awoken. Primordial and wholly evil, a living shadow emerges from a prison made weak by the magical cataclysm called The Black. Now the Sleeper stalks the land in search of its old enemies, leaving a trail of madness and destruction in its wake. Eric Cross, a Southern Claw warlock, has been sent to find the Woman in the Ice, the only known means to stopping this evil.
Aided by a grizzled ranger and a band of wardens and inmates from a sadistic prison, Cross’ mission will bring him into conflict with an array of foes: the barbaric Gorgoloth, vampire shock troops out of the Ebon Cities, and a cadre of mercenary nihilists called the Black Circle.
On a mission that will take him from a lost temple once ruled by insidious wolf sorcerers to the vicious gladiator games of the vampire city-state of Krul to the deadly ruins of an ice city, Cross will play a pivotal role in an ancient conflict whose outcome will determine the future of the world. Return to the world of Blood Skies in this exciting military fantasy adventure!
Blood Skies, Book 3
The war continues…
Eric Cross and his team of elite mercenaries are the bane of the Ebon Cities. Armed with the cutting-edge arcane weaponry of the Southern Claw, Cross and his crew – Black, Kane, Ronan, Maur, Grissom and Ash – have become a veritable thorn in the side of the vampire armies.
Now the team is tasked with halting vampire activity near the remote city-state of Fane, where the Ebon Cities have teamed up with a former Revenger in search of a deadly weapon called Soulrazor.
To make matters worse, something sinister has happened to Cross, and the key to his salvation is somehow directly tied to the Ebon Cities’ new soldiers: a host of necrotic angels who bear traces of divine power.
Cross and his team must travel across a blighted wilderness and do battle with a vile array of enemies as they race not only to save the city of Thornn from total annihilation, but to rescue Cross’ very soul from an enemy more powerful than he could ever imagine…
Blood Skies, Book 4
Eric Cross and his team have been to hell and back, but their journey isn’t over yet.
Marooned in the remote criminal city of Blacksand, the only way for the mercenaries to get home is to help a local crime boss protect his territories from the Ebon Cities.
To complicate matters, Danica Black is also being hunted by The Revengers, a powerful band of corrupt prison wardens, while Cross himself is trapped in the Whisperlands, a realm of darkness controlled by a cadre of evil mages known as the Shadow Lords.
The team will battle their way through corroding wastelands and deadly vampire outposts, but even their considerable skills might not be enough to save them from the cruel machinations of the Shadow Lord’s mysterious master, a malevolent creature who has manipulated their destinies right from the beginning…

Blood Skies, Book 5
A new evil is born.
The Ebon Cities have created a deadly new breed of undead called the Witchborn, whose very existence spells doom for the entire continent.
To make matters worse, a nihilist cult called the Black Circle has learned of the Witch’s Eye, the source of the Witchborn virus and an item capable of opening a portal to The Black.
Eric Cross’s scattered and war-weary team must find the Eye before it’s too late. With the aid of some unlikely allies, the mercenaries will fight their way across the wastelands and challenge the horrors at the edge of oblivion.
And before the battle is won Cross and his team will make the ultimate sacrifice, and face one of their own…

Bound to dire artifact blades and charged with protecting the Kindred, Cross seeks help from the enigmatic White Mother, leader of the Southern Claw.
But sinister forces bring his vessel down in a strange and distant land, and soon Cross and his allies are beset by undead armies vying for control of the deadly region called the Chain of Shadows. Trapped in a desert waste where wielding magic is dangerous and nothing is as it seems, Cross’s team will pay the ultimate price in their battle to finally get home…

Enscrolled: The Division Chronicles #3
By Connie L. Smith
In the aftermath of the latest battle, the stakes are higher than ever before, and time is hardly an ally to Nicholai’s army of paranormal soldiers. The Tomes remain hidden, their secrets the only chance the warriors possess of forever closing the Division and saving their world from a brutal finale.
But with every second that passes, the Division expands, more demons – equipped with an incurable toxin – managing to enter the realm to inflict their terror where they can. The clock is ticking on the soldiers already tainted with the venom, their lives depending on the quick creation of an unknown antidote. And beyond those worries, reason exists to suspect that magic might be vanishing. Should that belief prove true, the ramifications could cripple the army’s abilities, insurmountably, prior to the war’s conclusion.
Never has the conflict felt quite as desperate to the Essenced soldiers, danger escalating and hope lessening with the slow drain of each issue’s hourglass.
Will the answers to these dilemmas surface in time, or will the efforts of the band of warriors fail to prevent the ruin of the world?

McKenna watched him leave before refocusing on Johnny, confused at the expression her boyfriend wore. “What are you smirking at?”
He shrugged. “I’m just not sure how this could be such a bad memory. My girl glued to my side.” Wiggling his eyebrows, he continued. “Playing nurse…”
“Well, you are poisoned,” she deadpanned. “That puts a damper on these types of situations for most people.”
“Oh, you’re serious again.” His smirk broadened. “Are you gonna yell at me like you did when my leg was broken? That was attractive…”
Though she fought against it, her smile emerged, spreading over her lips as she shook her head. “You’re impossible. You know that?”
“Nah. I just learned along the way how to make my girl smile.”
Her grin lingered until her attention descended to his leg, the spot of the poison’s initial contact. Then she frowned, her eyes filling with tears and her hands beginning to tremble. Just ten days, she thought.
“Hey.” Johnny cupped her face, gentling bringing her gaze to lock with his. “We’re not gonna think about that because that’s gonna get taken care of.” Tobias again entered the medical room, moving directly to the corner reserved for the cure’s research to recommence his work. “See?” Johnny nodded his head toward the angel. “Look how dedicated he is to finding this. Think of all the soldiers around us who are perfectly capable of getting whatever weird ingredients he comes up with. If you do, ten days will seem like a lifetime, because it’s plenty of time.”
And then she was the one smirking. “That’s quite optimistic.”
He laughed, shrugging. “I told you that you’re rubbing off on me.”
“And you’re trusting others. Like you finally flipped a switch.”
“It isn’t like flipping a switch.” He smiled, revisiting the lecture she’d given him while stranded on a cliff. “It’s like deciding not to be in the darkness anymore. You take steps, and the light comes a little at a time until the darkness is gone.”
She quirked an eyebrow, chuckling. “That seems vaguely familiar.”
“Someone really smart once told me that.” Pulling her closer, he tapped the tip of her nose with his finger. “She was really hot, too.”
Don’t miss the first two books in the series:
About Connie L. Smith
Connie L. Smith spends far too much time with her mind wandering in fictional places. She reads too much, likes to bake, and will be forever sad that she doesn’t have fairy wings. And that she can’t swing dance. When she isn’t reading or writing, there’s a good chance she’s goofing off with her amazing, wonderful, incredible, fabulous nieces and nephew, or listening to music that is severely outdated. She has her BA from Northern Kentucky University in Speech Communication and History (she doesn’t totally get the connection either) and likes to snap photos. Oh, and she likes apples a whole big bunch.

It’s the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won’t stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person and bring them back as a monstrous version of their former self. To Sloane Price, that doesn’t sound so bad. Six months ago, her world collapsed and since then, she’s failed to find a reason to keep going. Now seems like the perfect time to give up. As Sloane eagerly waits for the barricades to fall, she’s forced to witness the apocalypse through the eyes of five people who actually want to live. But as the days crawl by, the motivations for survival change in startling ways and soon the group’s fate is determined less and less by what’s happening outside and more and more by the unpredictable and violent bids for life—and death—inside. When everything is gone, what do you hold on to?
Well this was different to what I usually read, but I think that was part of the appeal. I had heard about This Is Not A Test for so long, but when I first opened the book, I had no idea zombies were involved.
Many on reviews say this is not strictly a zombie apocalyptic story, because while they are apart of the plot, they are not CENTRAL. The story is about the teenagers and their survival. They don’t know how long they’ll be alive for before the zombies fight their way through. It was definitely gruesome in parts, but I have read some pretty gruel stories and this was tame in comparison. The characters were intriguing and tough. Some were more central than others, and Sloane was the main character. Since her twin left her to her abusive father, Sloane has just wanted to end her life. But then she runs away when the dead come to life and start attacking, and her reasons to die become less coherent. It’s quite a powerful story, and at times I thought: this is it. She’s going to kill herself. But you gradually see she’s getting stronger and finding a reason to live, even if it takes time.
I’m really glad I picked this up from the library and will look out for more books by this author.
We have some fun things for you today. As part of the blog tour, we’re pleased to give you some deadly goodies from:
Crane by Stacey Rourke
his presence shan’t lessen.
If you break the curse,
you become the legend.Washington Irving and Rip Van Winkle had no choice but to cover up the deadly truth behind Ichabod Crane’s disappearance. Centuries later, a Crane returns to Sleepy Hollow awakening macabre secrets once believed to be buried deep. What if the monster that spawned the legend lived within you? Now, Ireland Crane, reeling from a break-up and seeking a fresh start, must rely on the newly awakened Rip Van Winkle to discover the key to channeling the darkness swirling within her. Bodies are piling high and Ireland is the only one that can save Sleepy Hollow by embracing her own damning curse.
But is anyone truly safe when the Horseman rides?
How about an excerpt?
The plush terry cloth robe slipped from Ireland’s shoulders with a whispering caress before pooling in a heap around her ankles. Marble tiles chilled her bare feet as she stepped into the walk-in shower. The tips of her fingers slid across stainless steel. With a flick of her wrist, the trio of showerheads flowed to life. Welcoming heat came at her from all angles, pulsating over her curves with a rhythmic seduction. Ireland turned, a groan escaping her as the streams massaged all the right places. Steam rose, fogging the handle and creating a cloud of humidity that hugged her frame. Tipping her head back, she let the droplets rain down on her face and across her closed lids. Her lips parted, welcoming the rush of warmth that flooded between them. Until it assaulted her tongue with a rush of coppery warmth that clamped her throat shut with a wretched heave. Her hands cupped to catch the droplets, her eyes widening as thick crimson pooled in her palms, seeping between her ivory fingers. Formerly white tiles were now smattered and smeared with blackish-red gore that sprayed from the nozzles. Ireland threw herself from the shower, her feet slipping beneath her. She reached out to steady herself, but found nothing to hold on to. Nothing there to pull her back from the brink, except her own need for self-preservation … and a shadowed silhouette in the corner. Instinctively, she covered herself with her arms. Squinting, she craned her neck to see the figure that was slowly turning to face her.
“Mason?” Her voice echoed around her before she could even speak it.
He stared straight ahead with fixed, unseeing eyes. Blood trailed down his face from various points of origin, soaking the front of his shirt. “Cloak of night, brings Horseman’s plight. His pricy toll, will be a soul.”
“Mason? Are you okay?”
A hard blink and his eyes found focus on her. A desperate panic flared his nostrils, forcing his breath to come fast and ragged. “Help me, you have to help me,” he pleaded, his teeth pink with the blood that streamed past his lips.
Her trembling hand reached for him, then recoiled at her own inept state of confusion. “H-how? What do I do?”
“You have to save us,” Mason’s words became more garbled by the fresh rush of gore that bubbled up the back of his throat. His once handsome face contorted in rage. Leaning forward he balled his fists and screamed with a force that bulged the tendons of his neck, “Save us!”

THE SELECTION changed the lives of thirty-five girls forever. Now, only one will claim Prince Maxon’s heart…
It’s swoon meets the Hunger Games in the final instalment of THE SELECTION trilogy!
For the four girls who remain at the palace, the friendships they’ve formed, rivalries they’ve struggled with and dangers they’ve faced have bound them to each other for the rest of their lives.
Now, the time has come for one winner to be chosen.
America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown – or to Prince Maxon’s heart. But as the competition approaches its end and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realises just how much she stands to lose – and how hard she’ll have to fight for the future she wants.
PRAISE YOU, KIERA! *high fives* I loved that bit in the Acknowledgements! lol
If I had any doubts about how this would pan out, then I wish I could go back to myself three days ago and slap my face. Shake my shoulders and tell me that I’m being silly. I won’t spoil it because it’s a pretty big ending.
Anyway, America…wow she became so much more in The One. I’ll admit she got on my nerves a bit in The Elite because of her “indecision” over Maxon and Aspen. I mean, really. There is NO comparison. (pssst I love Maxon!) But I could also see her point of view. She’d only ever known Aspen and change isn’t always good, sometimes it’s freaking scary and if you don’t know what’s waiting on the other side, why would you want to change?
There were plenty of sad moments, however in this final instalment. I cried. I know, I know, I try not to. But…those letters. *zips lips* I can’t. You’ll know what I mean if you’ve read it.
I wanted to slap America at one point, though. Her attention to secrecy regarding Aspen was bound to slip at one point and when it did I was ready to start an intervention. This girl…hasn’t she learned anything by now? Secrets aren’t good.
The romance in this is swoooooon worthy and awww man….can i just grafitti my love for Maxon MAXON MY DARLING MY DEAR COME TO MEEEE! (I’m not crazy, I promise!)
I love her family, though. May…however overly giddy, she is a sweetie. Kota bugged me. Such a self-righteous git. Grr. We get to meet Kenna properly this time.
There are also new characters involving the Northern Rebels, and there are some surprises that took me by surprise.
I’m so sad this is the end of America’s story but I will forever love it. Such a roller coaster of feelings. I wish I could be a princess. *sighs*
