5 stars to The Maze Runner by James Dashner

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every thirty days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.

Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.

Review:

This has been on my to-read list for way to freaking long. I finally got the book and made it my goal to finish the book while on vacation. I did just that in a matter of two days.

I will start off by saying this is so different from what I have been reading lately. I’ve been addicted to contemporary almost all summer long so to jump to this, I was slightly worried because I know how much I want to like this book. Plus… it’s gonna be a movie with Dylan O’Brien and I am slightly obsessed with him. Just saying.

Okay. So… I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK! Oh my goodness! It’s officially a top favorite! It’s so different and interesting! It sort of reminded me of the hunger games but different. These kids (I believe all boys but one) live in this place called the Glades. Their goal? To get out. They have been searching for a way out for almost two years, maybe more. Nothing; it all seems to be a dead end with no hope. That is until Thomas shows up and completely flips the place upside down! He does some ballsy things; running full force into the “Maze” knowing what’s inside (sort of) to save lives of people who probably didn’t like him. He’s different and you can immediately tell he tests the others because he is constantly asking questions and thinking differently then the others. Then… not even a day or two later, a girl shows up. It’s all craziness from then on. It’s about surviving and getting out of the Glades alive, if there is a way out. No one really knows because no one knows how they got here, who they are, or what they are meant to actually be doing.

I just loved all the suspense in this book. You never knew what exactly was going to come next. There were a lot of life or death moments throughout reading. Then I ADORE Teresa and Thomas. They are… strangers with a past ;). And I love their gift. It makes them unique and different compared to many other stories. I LOVED what they could do. I think that’s why I love them so much  and no, I’m not telling you. Read and find out!

The ending. This ending. WHAT?! I… I couldn’t fathom what I was reading. I was shell-shocked. I couldn’t put the book down at that point. I was sitting here thinking to myself, what… did I just read that? How? WHAT?! OH MY GOD. It was one of those. I couldn’t believe it. I still don’t. Mind blowing for me.

Overall… I really loved this book. It’s different. It’s a puzzle for the mind because of the context and things going on but it’s well worth it. I enjoyed every moment of this book. I was drawn in from the start and kept going until the very last page and now I am dying to read the next one.

And now I really can’t wait for the movie! Fingers crossed it holds up…

Seriously. Go read this. It’s amazing.
